Human rights are of the utmost importance as far as reforms on modernisation of the Azerbaijani judiciary are concerned. The focus is on the study and implementation of international legal standards and especially of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. Therefore, special emphasis was placed to this very urgent issues within the in-service training course held for judges and public prosecutors, who uphold state prosecution, which was organised by the Judicial-Legal Council and General Prosecutors Office. Experienced specialists, prominent international experts were invited address the said target group.
Most recently Mr. Egbert Myjer and Mr. Khanlar Hajiyev, Judges of the European Court of Human Rights who were invited to our country delivered interesting lectures before judges and prosecutors. A well known lawyer and author of the Manual on human rights which was translated in Azerbaijan and distributed among judges, prosecutors and other lawyers, Mr. Egbert Myjer and our countryman Mr. Khanlar Hajiyev informed of the recent case-law of the European Court and guided a useful discussion on implementation of the relevant provisions of the European Convention and the case-law.
Alongside this, Mr. Myjer met with candidates for judicial posts at the Legal Training Center of the Ministry of Justice. While delivering a lecture, Mr. Myjer spoke about the practice of the Court he represents and gave his valuable recommendations to future judges.
As it was informed before, Mr. Egbert Myjer and Mr. Khanlar Hajiyev took part at the round table devoted to the activity of the European Court of Human Rights. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Fikrat Mammadov and attended by the Judicial-Legal Council members, high officials of the Ministry of Justice, Prosecutor General, courts chairmen, and leadership of the Bar Association.
During their visits to the regions of Azerbaijan Mr. Egbert Myjer and Mr. Khanlar Hajiyev got acquainted with the activity of the local courts, met with judges, prosecutors and justice employees, shared their personal working practice, held efficient exchange of views about the important practical issues on protection of human rights.
